April 1999 to Present
- Consulting. Producing estimates, schedules, CAD drawings, & construction specifications.
- Writing a book about residential construction.

September 1998 to March 1999
- Operations Manager for Dynamic Building Services, an insurance restoration company, in West Chester PA. Hired as a consultant to reorganize and clarify the operations for the entire company. Project completed.

January 1997 to December 1997
- Working sabbatical - traveled, wrote, and did some long distance hiking which included completing the entire Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine. During this period also consulted with former clients on renovation & new home projects on location in Texas, Virginia, Maryland, Florida and Pennsylvania

February 1982 to December 1995
- Dorset Builders, Inc., President, Northern Virginia
- Established and operated a renovation & new home construction company. $2.5 million dollar volume.

    1992 Jimmy Carter Work Camp
    Habitat for Humanity International, Washington, D.C.

  • Construction Director -- September 1991 to July 1992
  • Responsible for all aspects of the construction process
  • Designing the over all plan for the project
  • Acquiring the land and site developement
  • Soliciting in-kind materials
  • Staffing & directing 15 committees for the implementation of the construction aspects of the project
  • Coordinating with and reporting to other project committees
  • Supervising the operation the week of the build, including 600+ volunteers, subcontractors, and staff
  • The 1992 JCWP was the tenth such project and the first one to successfully complete all of the houses (10) in five days

    Hurricane Andrew Response Team
    Habitat for Humanity International, Homestead, FL.

  • Construction Director -- September 1992 to December 1992
  • Responsible for all aspects of the construction process
  • Designing the over all plan for the project
  • Acquiring the land and site developement in four major developments -- Naranga, Homestead, Florida City & The Redlands
  • Arrived in Miami - Day 8 after the hurricane, oversaw the institution of field offices in Homestead.
  • Coordinating with local HFH affiliates, various local & state goverments, F.E.M.A. and other disaster relief agencies.
  • The Hurricane Andrew Response Team was responsible for the building and oversight of the first seven (7) homes built after the hurricane in Homestead, FL.
